The Crimson and Gold swimmers and divers have begun their season on an early winning streak, posting a 5-0 record at the newly renovated Chaminade Pool to remain undefeated thus far.
The Flyers began this varsity campaign in mid-November, with Chaminade topping the Kellenberg Firebirds, 105-73, on November 14. Six days later, Chaminade again came out on top in a much closer meet with Archbishop Molloy, 97-83. Then, on the Monday before Thanksgiving, the Flyers closed out the month by topping the Terriers of St. Francis Prep, 96-79.Â
When the calendar pages turned to December, the Flyers' victories became increasingly dominant, with Chaminade posting similar margins of victory in wins over both Xaverian (102-73 on December 2) and St. John the Baptist (101-70 on December 10).
So far this season, notable performances have been turned in by several swimmers, including Tobenna Nwosu '27 and Matthew Franklin '26, who have been swimming particularly well as of late, according to assistant coach Andrew Salecker. Other impressive performances have come from the squad's seniors - Jake Stachowicz, James Bertrand and John Dragan - all of whom Coach Salecker expects to lead the Flyers both in and out of the pool as the season progresses.Â
Since the start of the 2022-23 campaign, Chaminade has posted back-to-back perfect records in the CHSAA, going 8-0 last season and 7-0 two years ago. The Flyers look to continue this multi-year streak in 2025, as they will enter the new year well rested, having competed just once over Christmas break - a December 30 showdown against Delbarton (10 a.m., Chaminade Pool).
Notably, this showdown represents the first time the Flyers will ever face off against the New Jersey athletic powerhouse. (Delbarton is not a part of the CHSAA.) Other upcoming matchups of note include meets against Msgr. Farrell on Thursday, January 9, Xavier on Saturday, January 11, and St. Anthony's on Wednesday, January 22.Â
Perhaps the most significant matchup on the upcoming slate, however, is scheduled for January 14, when the Flyers will travel to the Bronx for a meet against Fordham Prep. This is the only time the Chaminade swimmers will compete away from their home in Mineola during the regular season.
With the 16 freshmen swimmers and divers being called upon to swim for the varsity team this winter, things are looking bright for Chaminade, as the Flyers swimmers and divers appear quite committed to continuing their tradition of excellence in the pool, both through 2025 and far into the future.
