After a nearly month-long respite due to their extended Christmas break, the Flyers jetted back to the lanes on Tuesday, January 7 to face the Gaels of St. Mary's at Bowl 360 in New Hyde Park.
The Flyers started their perfect, undefeated season against the Gaels on November 26. Despite an uneven start to the match this time around, the Flyers pulled through, extending their perfect-game streak to 54-0.Â
"The key has been a combination of precision, synergy, and individual excellence," reflected Coach Gerner.
The very next day, the Flyers faced off against the St. Dominic's Bayhawks at AMF Lanes in Syosset. Just like the Gaels, the Bayhawks had been on the receiving end of a dominating 9-0 Flyers performance earlier this season.
The tone was set quickly by senior and team captain Alexander Fiorillo, who bowled an impressive 609 series. Sophomores Damian Torres and Sebastiano LoGiudice also led for the Flyers, posting high games of 221 and 232, respectively.Â
Buoyed by these strong performances, the Flyers clinched yet another 9-0 victory.
As dominant as the season has been thus far, Gerner realizes there is still much to accomplish.
"Goals include extending [the] unbeaten streak, refining skills further, and building on strong team dynamics," said the second-year head coach.
Still, continuing such a historic 63-0 is not without its challenges.
"Maintaining this streak requires focus, consistent practice, and a commitment to teamwork," Gerner reflected. "By staying grounded, reviewing performances, and continuously improving, [we] aim to carry momentum into every game."
The Flyers will return to action on Monday, January 23, when they will face one of their toughest opponents yet, Delbarton (NJ).
