Flyers’ Fiorillo Finishes Third in State

By: Maximilian Wrotniak '28

After an outstanding season that saw his Flyers become NSCHSAA champions, senior, team captain, and league MVP Alexander Fiorillo took one last test as a Chaminade student.

On Saturday, March 1st, in sunny Buffalo, New York, Alex competed in the NYSCHSAA State Tournament - a prestigious individual tournament for which high-school bowlers must qualify.

Against an array of talent from across the state, including PBA juniors and previous winners, Alex managed to claim third place in the tournament. Ultimately, he came short to Molloy's MJ Sim, who won the event.

"[MJ Sim] is the one you want to beat, and Alex almost did," said Chaminade head coach Gregory Gerner.

Now, the Flyers turn their attention towards next season, where they will be under the leadership of a new captain, current junior Michael Cohen.

"Hopefully, Mike takes the reins next year, and he can do what [Alex] did," reflected Coach Gerner. "We need to take the energy from this year's championship into next season."

Alex leaves the Flyers program with a great deal of hardware and accomplishments, his third-place trophy at States yet another testament to the championship pedigree he brought to the Chaminade program in his four years on the team.
